ABOUT STEVE

Steve Sawyer is a highly experienced trainer of several unique therapeutic models including Brainspotting and HeartMath. Steve co-founded three wilderness programs with a trauma-informed and clinical focus: New Vision Wilderness in Wisconsin (2007), Deschutes Wilderness Therapy in Oregon (2012) and First Light Wilderness Therapy in Georgia (2020). He continues to work as a core therapeutic training development staff with the institute of HeartMath, receiving their Humanitarian Heart award in 2018, along with significant contributions to both the HeartMath Interventions and Resilient Heart Training Programs.

Steve is a leading active International Brainspotting trainer with training of Phases 1 and 2, and he authored the Developmental Trauma-Focused Model of Brainspotting. Steve’s Native-focused work is as a Wellbriety Mending Broken Hearts trainer, and Native Focused Brainspotting trainer. Steve spends time amongst trauma focused treatment masters like Gabor Mate and Bessel Van Der Kolk. Steve’s trainings are recognized nation-wide for cutting edge therapeutic techniques, science, and inspiration.

ABOUT ERIN

Erin Findley, PsyD (she/her), is a Licensed Psychologist (CA PSY27364) based in Napa, California, who leads her private practice with compassion and a commitment to making a difference in the lives of neurodivergent individuals and couples; artists; high performers; and those with single-incident, complex, and/or developmental trauma.

 

In her clinical practice, Dr. Findley uses a highly attuned, radically accepting, bottom-up approach that is built on attachment theory and neuroscience. She is a Certified Brainspotting Consultant and Therapist, she is an HSP-Knowledgeable Therapist, she has received Advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples, and she is trained in both classic EMDR and Attachment-Focused EMDR.

Beyond her professional credentials, Dr. Findley is a champion for social justice and actively participates in ongoing learning, self-reflection, and advocacy efforts spanning more than a decade. Her commitment to decolonization, both personally and within her practice, reflects her dedication to equitable and inclusive mental health services.

This dedication extends to her professional efforts, driven by a profound commitment to enhancing the quality of life for autistic and other neurodivergent individuals. She employs a multifaceted approach, educating both the general public and professionals across various disciplines, while striving to improve access to high-quality neurodiversity affirmative services and supports. Dr. Findley has also pioneered professional spaces where like-minded colleagues can learn her methods for incorporating neurodiversity affirmative principles into Brainspotting, couples therapy, and psychological assessment.

 

In her personal life, Dr. Findley has diverse interests including music, acting, reading, writing, creating jewelry, and spending time with her family and her pets. She also bakes the best oatmeal chocolate chip cookies you’ll ever eat.

ABOUT KERI

Keri Sawyer, has over a decade of experience facilitating movement and breath practices, embodiment, and trauma informed practices. She is a seasoned speaker and facilitator who has trained thousands of people as an experienced 500 hour yoga teacher and licensed Trainer with the Center for Trauma and Embodiment in Boston. Keri provides Trauma Sensitive yoga to trauma survivors of all ages, facilitates trainings for yoga teachers and healthcare workers, and provides research-based information and trauma-informed treatment practices to the therapeutic world.

Keri oversees the implementation of of trauma informed practices into therapeutic models in clinical and residential treatment programs across the country along with agency trainings and regular consultation for mental health clinicians, therapists, nurses, massage therapists, yoga teachers and more. Her passion is to provide an opportunity for survivors of trauma to have an authentic experience with a safe and predictable felt sense of their body along with spreading awareness of trauma-informed practices. 

ABOUT AMY

Amy is an experienced professional who has spent nearly 15 years working alongside Steve Sawyer and 13 enriching years assisting Steve with his program at New Vision Wilderness. Her journey in the workforce spans over three decades in leading roles, where she has honed her skills in leadership, strategic execution, and creating lifelong connections.

Beyond Amy's professional life, she is a devoted mother of three and a grandmother of three, roles that bring joy and depth to her life. Her family values and work experience blend seamlessly to shape her approach to both life and career. Amy is looking forward to connecting and sharing insights from her journey!

ABOUT JENNI

Jenni is a Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying) based in Toronto, Canada. She is currently completing the placement component of her Masters degree in Counselling Psychology and believes deeply in the power of somatic therapeutic approaches such as brainspotting.

 

In the future, Jenni hopes to combine this approach with her passion for supporting those who have experienced trauma at any stage of life. She is excited to have the opportunity to merge her passion for trauma awareness and treatment with her creative side through managing social media platforms and communications for DTTI.

Regina is Brainspotting Consultant/Trainer, & SEP (Somatic Experiencing Practitioner).   Regina provides integrative person-centered attachment focused approach with children, adolescents and adults which is neuroscience informed.  Regina is licensed as an LCSW in California and Louisiana. Specialties: Native/Indigenous populations, substance abuse, adoption, developmental trauma, historical/intergenerational trauma, oppression, ADHD, first/second responders, & sensory processing issues.

ABOUT RAYSHA

The Collective is a holistic group counseling practice that champions alternative treatments for behavioral and psychological wellness. Founded and led by Raysha Clark LPC, The Collective provides neurofeedback, CES, breathwork, and other body-based modalities to help groups and individuals navigate their mental health journey. Brainspotting and neurofeedback consultation is available in a limited capacity with Raysha.

ABOUT PERRY

Perry Clark, received his License as a Marriage and Family Therapist in 2018. Before that he received his BA in Creative Arts from SJSU in 2002, and his MA in Psychology: Counseling Psychology from ITP in 2014. Perry’s Associate training and time was spend at CHAC in Mountain View in school and community mental health, Cassy’s School programs running groups in San Jose, and as a Private Practice Associate to learn the Business side in the San Jose area. Do to disconnects in the handling of Perry’s dyslexia, multiple attempts were necessary to passing the Licensing Exam. After resolving this, with License in hand, he opened his Private Practice “Untangle and Grow Counseling” in San Jose in 2019.  Serving Men, BIPOC, LGBT populations, as well as Individuals, Couples, and Adolescences. In 2021, Perry start the Podcast “Untying Knots: Minds and Souls Untethered”. Which allowed for discussion around mental health and intersectionality as BIPOC person.

ABOUT JANICE

Jiewen (Janice) Huang is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, psychotherapist, life coach, Certified Grief Educator, Grief Movement Guide, Sound Healing Practitioner, and Healing Touch practitioner apprentice. Janice speaks Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. She has worked in various settings and positions, including women's cancer-related programs, home health, palliative and hospice, medical inpatient, UCSF Psychiatry Intensive Case Management, primary care behavioral health, Master of Social Work field instructor, mental health consultant, and clinical supervisor. Janice is a certified Brainspotting practitioner and has been trained in Phase 1-4, Masterclass, and other specialty workshops.

ABOUT JOSH

Josh has been working with children, adults, couples, families, and groups since 1997. He is trained in several trauma-resolution (and other) therapies including: Brainspotting, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, HeartMath, the Stress Model, Ego State therapy (parts work), Cognitive/Behavioral as well as Family Attachment Narrative Therapy.  He also incorporates play and art into sessions with clients that benefit from those types of interventions. In the past, Josh has been an addictions counselor and created and directed an addiction-focused day treatment center for high school students. He has also worked as a Clinical Specialist for New Vision Wilderness, a therapeutic outdoor  program in Northern Wisconsin.

Josh is currently an instructor for master’s degree students in clinical social work and trauma counseling for the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare at UW-Milwaukee. He is also on the executive board for the Midwest Brainspotting Institute and is a certified Brainspotting Consultant. Josh is a clinical supervisor and consultant for local mental health professionals, agencies, and school districts.

 

He published a book in 2021 called “A Special Place in My Brain” for children who struggle with trauma-related behaviors.  Josh is a happy husband and a proud father of two wonderful daughters.

ABOUT JENNIFER

As the owner of a thriving group private practice, Guilford Counseling, PLLC, Jennifer specializes in helping clinicians build value-centered and employee-centered private and group practices.  Jennifer opened her practice in 2011 and has grown past 25+ employees.  Her practice specializes in healing developmental trauma through a nervous system focused approach. Jennifer has combined her research and experience around developmental trauma with DBT to create TF-DBT, which she has written about and facilitates intensive trainings for other clinicians.​

Jennifer's passion for pursuing truly person-centered and non-pathologizing treatment that heals the nervous system led her to Brainspotting in 2018. From Phases 1, 2, and 4 in 2018, Jennifer went on to pursue Phase 3 and BSP with Addictions trainings in 2020, as well as being invited to present at the International Brainspotting Conference in 2021. Taking Digging Roots training in 2024 left Jennifer feeling totally aligned with the combination of her deep passion for developmental trauma combined with a relational and nervous system centered approach to healing.

Jennifer is a fierce advocate for employee and entrepreneur wellness and believes in building your work around your life rather than building your life around your work, as well as truly living the freedom that entrepreneurship can offer. In leading from a trauma informed and nervous system centered way, Jennifer believes we can transform how we treat and nurture those who serve clients in our practices.

ABOUT NIKKI

Nikki is an LMFT in Private Practice in Pleasanton, CA. After being blown away in Phase 1 in 2018, Nikki continued her learning through all 4 phases (where she regularly assists), David’s Masterclass, and multiple Intensives. Nikki has taken many of the specialty Brainspotting courses including: Expansion, Addictions, Heroes Journey, Limbic Countertransference, and Child/Adolescent Beginning and Advanced. Nikki is also a Specialist Child/Adolescent Brainspotting Consultant, Registered Play Therapist, Certified Complex Trauma Professional II, SE Advanced Student, is EMDR trained, and regularly volunteers with BSP Help. Nikki took Digging Roots 1.0 in October 2023 and experienced a powerful shift personally and professionally. She furthered her Developmental Trauma training at a Digging Roots Intensive in January 2024, and regularly uses this powerful approach with her clients.

ABOUT ERICA

Erica Hough is a Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor and the owner of Luverne Counseling, a private practice located in southwest Minnesota. Erica holds a Master's degree in Adlerian Psychotherapy and Counseling and is licensed to practice in Minnesota, South Dakota, and Iowa. She is also a National Certified Counselor and a Board Approved Supervisor.

Erica is a Certified Brainspotting Practitioner and Consultant-in-Training. She discovered Brainspotting in 2019 and was immediately impressed by its effectiveness. Since then, she has completed extensive training in Brainspotting, including all four phases, Master Class, BSP & Substance Abuse, Crocodile Setup, Brain Science, Expansion, Group BSP, BSP & Parts Work, BSP & Weight-loss, High Acuity Care Model, Digging Roots, Digging Deeper 2.0, and Digging Roots Intensive.

​In October 2023, Erica volunteered with Brainspotting Help and traveled to Maui to provide free Brainspotting sessions to survivors of the Maui fires. She is a founding member and current team member of the High Acuity Care BSP Initiative. She is passionate about the Developmental Trauma Model of BSP and is honored to join the DTTI team to contribute to its mission.

ABOUT DANELLE

Danelle Berdahl, LMFT (She/Her), is a compassionate and dedicated Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Pleasanton, California specializing in supporting adults with a history of Developmental Trauma and Anxiety.

Danelle brings a wealth of expertise in Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing, and Expressive Arts to her practice and the DTTI Team.

Danelle is a certified Brainspotting Therapist and Consultant who frequently assists in advanced Brainspotting training under esteemed Brainspotting trainers Steve Sawyer, Lisa Larson, and Brainspotting founder David Grand. Combining her expertise in Brainspotting with advanced training in Somatic Experiencing and a creative approach through expressive arts therapy, Danelle skillfully addresses deep-seated trauma by integrating attuned psychotherapy with brain and body-based methods. This support helps clients discover their own profoundly unique healing.
